Borgue Community Benefit Society is a membership organisation established in Autumn 2025 to improve the village of Borgue and its surroundings, for residents and visitors alike, through investing in local amenities and projects.
Centred on Borgue Community Council area, extended northwards to the A755, the Society was founded to carry out development for the whole community and not for private benefit.
The Society is owned by the community through membership which gives access to information about its activities and a voice in running it. The Society is governed by a Management Committee and membership offers the opportunity to vote for, or be elected to, the Committee.
Our priority is to recruit members from the local community – people who reside or own property within the Society’s boundary. People outwith the area who support the Society’s purpose can become ‘supporter members’ but ‘community members’ will always be in the majority.
Our first intiative is to purchase The Borgue Hotel, our remaining local pub. The Hotel is the only place in the greater Borgue area where residents and visitors can meet on an ad hoc basis. Our aspiration is to refurbish the facilities and expand social activities at the Hotel, such as: a warm space meeting point, a community cafe, chess and chatter, knit and natter, a film club, open mic entertainment. The aim is to maintain the hotel as a local employer
The Society will go on to pursue other projects championed by the membership and as identified in the Local Place Plan, such as: support for the Litter Picking Group, possible development of Borgue Primary School and potential of providing affordable housing.
Borgue Community Benefit Society was officially registered with the Financial Conduct Authority on 31 October 2025, under the Co-operative and Community Benefit Societies Act 2014.
